In math the first thing we learned about was PEMDAS. It stands for parentheses, exponents, multiply, divide, add, and subtract.
PEMDAS is used mainly for Order of Operations. You do your parentheses first and down the list no matter where they are in the problem.
Another thing we learned about was using a calculator to convert fractions to decimals. You can also divide the numerator in the denominator.
We also learned about using multiple numbers to divide such as 100 divided by 50 divided by 2.
One other thing we have learned bout is using multiplication. It is a quicker way to do addition.
We eventually got around to learning fractions, and we learned about simplifying fractions.
Another thing that we learned about was adding and subtracting fractions. You have to find a Least Common Denominator, and then subtract.
We then learned how to multiply fractions. You use applesauce, applesauce to multiply the numerators, and then the denominators.
Eventually we learned how to divide fractions. You do the same as multiply but you flip the second fraction.
We used to use simplification to compare fractions, but we learned Criss-Cross-Applesauce. You multiply the numerator by denominator of the other fraction on both.
We learned how to add mixed numbers. It is the same as regular fractions, but with a whole number.
We also learned how to subtract mixed numbers. You do the same process as you would with regular fractions, but with a whole number.
Eventually we learned how to multiply mixed numbers. You multiply the fraction, and then the whole numbers.
We also learned how to divide mixed numbers. You divide the fractions then you divide the whole numbers.
Another thing we learned how to do is, comparing mixed numbers. You turn the mixed number into an improper fraction, and then you compare.
Before TCAP we reviewed all our skills in one project.
The project is 360 math Where the teacher looks around the room helping students.
The teacher is in the middle while the students work out problems.
The problems consisted of multiplying fractions to adding decimals.
Eventually relearned how to calculate proportions, and used our skills to plan a fake vacation as a class project.
